Random updates

Well, I guess you could say it has been a busy summer. At least once a day something happens and I think "I should blog about that." But, I am way too lazy for that.

Dylan is growing fast, so many new things. We are trying to teach him how to play nice with the dog, but anymore Buck just runs away when Dylan starts giggling and chasing him.
We got the camper out for the first time the last weekend in July for the Overmohle family campout in Lake View. We did alright, didn't forget too many things, and learned a lot about camping with a camper. Dylan had fun being passed around and went swimming in a lake for the first time. He even tried to eat a fist full of sand. I guarantee that there was more sand in his butt crack than was ever in his mouth.
The men's golf league I am in only has 2 weeks left, it was a disappointing season. I was average and my partner really sucked. Oh well, it is always a good time, and a good way to take off of work a little early once a week. I did finally have my first eagle on a par 4 last week, that felt pretty good.
Football season is upon us, and I am pumped up. Of course Chrissy is already crying " I'm a football widow." What can I say, as far as addictions go, is football the worst? I think not.
Chrissy was able to switch a shift so we all can attend Doug and Allison's wedding next weekend.
I think I have typed enough for tonight

What do you think I did?

This will be short. We have had a lot of fire and EMS calls over the past 7 days including a big elevator fire, and an elevator explosion the next day. On one of those excitng calls I was in the back of the rescue truck getting geared up and, like always, had the look of a kid in a candy store. My buddy Eric was also back there, looked at me and said "Now don't go doing anything stupid." My reply was " You know I'm the king of doing stupid shit." Eric- " Yeah, I know, but you have a kid now." I always enjoy it when Eric is in the rescue(sarcasm) what a killjoy.
Anyway, busy, busy, busy. We did buy a camper, so we are excited to use it at Lake View next weekend, and hopefully find some time to get out a few more times this year.
Dyan is crawling all over the place, and trying to climb over everything. And of course opening every drawer and door. He is also getting his first tooth and talking a lot of gibberish.
Now I want to know what you think I did. I needed to use the restroom tonight after getting home from doing a little shopping for things needed for the newly acquired camper. As I was buttoning up, somehow my $500 pager fell of of my belt. Obviously my lightning fast reflexes took over and I went in to stop it from crashing on the tile floor. A valiant effort it was, but my world isn't perfect. My hand re-directed the pager into a pee filled toilet. What do you think I did?

One small step for man....

The past few Sunday nights the Discovery channel has had a series of documentaries about the NASA space missions. I have only been able to see parts of these shows, but what I have seen has been very interesting. Tonight they are showing "In the shadow of the moon." Hopefully they replay some of these shows so I can see the whole thing. Anyway it got me thinking about what I remember about the space program of my time. I remember Challenger, I think I was in school at the time, South Elementary, in the library. I was pretty young and don't remember a whole lot. Columbia I can remember quite well. It was a Saturday morning and dad was coming over to our house to texture the dining room walls after I took down some paneling. All of the sudden it was all over the news. It was hard to think about anything else. I found it interesting that mission control knew something was wrong when they started to get bad sensor readings and lost contact with the crew. But as the time of landing came and went without a shuttle in sight, their thoughts were finally confirmed by a new station showing footage of the shuttle falling apart over Texas.
So, I was just wondering if any of you old timers remember what you were doing when man first set foot on the moon.

Little Hawk fan

While attending an I-CLUB banquet in Sioux City a couple of weeks ago, I won a Big Ten Champion womens basketball t-shirt(whoo hoo). Then a few numbers later they called another one of my tickets- an autographable football- sweet. So after the speeches I had Kirk sign it for Dylan.

Dylan has been doing great for the most part. He just started crawling early this week, and has really taken off. He goes faster every day, and gets into everything. Just sitting and playing with toys doesn't do it anymore.
Chrissy and I have been staying very busy. I wish she had a job that had regular hours. Having a child has definetly cut down on my golf time, I know poor me. I did up my longest drive to 343yds early in th year, and shot 3 over par last week, but overall very inconsistant. I did buy a different cart, stripped it down, painted it, and obviously made it the fastest cart on the course.
We plan on being at camp next week, not sure when yet. Probably Thurs. afternoon.
I have a lot more I could go on about, but short on time.

Sorry Mom, no boat

For Mother’s Day, Cedric Benson thinks you should take your mom out to the lake for some booze and some pepper spray.

If you don't follow pro football you most likely don't get. Sorry, I thought it was funny.
Happy mothers day

Well, Dylan is now 6 months old, crazy! He is doing very well, we started fruit and veggies 2 or 3 weeks ago and seems to like most things we have fed him. Not crawling yet, but the way he is moving we are thinking that he will start within the next month, but you never know, no hurry I guess. The dog seems to be the main attraction, if Dylan spots him across the room he smiles and laughs. He also likes to pet (and pinch), and Buck likes to try and give kisses anytime he thinks someone is not looking.
I have been very busy the past few months, EMS confrences, fire schools, various classes, and meetings, meetings, meetings. It is good to get to regional confrences/schools because I can catch up with people that I only see a few times a year or less, and meet some new people and get new/ different ideas. The grants I had been working finaly got completed- 3 days before the deadline- I think thats a few days earlier than last year, ahh procrastination.
I have also been going through the hiring process for SCFD since last October, as some of you may know. A certified hire list was posted just before the end of the year, and I was ranked 12 out of the 40 that made the list. The beggining of Feb. I had another interview that could have helped or hurt my position, but the results are unknown. If you don't know about the process, ask me sometime, I don't have that much time to type.
As golf season should be here, the weather has not let that happen. I went out this weekend only to get a few swings in before mens league starts next tuesday. Man I sucked. It was pretty windy and 45-50 degrees, but I was just horrible. So Sunday after dinner it was time to give it another shot- should have stayed home- I was worse. Same crappy weather, but I was worse. I hope I can get out again before league starts.
Aside from a handfull of projects I have to get done, hopefully things will be slowing down. We still need to get up to MN to check out the new Laabs home. Before you know it football season will be here. I will try to post again before then!

I guess you could say we have been very busy all of the time, but nothing ever seems to get done. I have been swamped at work, hardly ever getting home on time. It's nice on the days I have to pick up Dylan from daycare, because I have to be out on time. Chrissy has been back to work for about three weeks. She has been working a lot in post-partum, so she holds new babies every time she works. RSV has been bringing a lot of infants also, so she has to be careful not to bring it home. Dylan is mostly smiles these days. He likes to grab on to Chrissy's hair all of the time, and has become more vocal. He has most recently started trying to help hold the bottle when feeding, usually resulting in him knocking it out of his mouth. Gotta go.
